Day-11, Buda or Pest?

11-08-2017

The program of the second day in Hungary was a visit to the capital Budapest. With the bus we travelled to the city and were dropped near the so called "House of Terror" at the Andrássy út. During the Second World War this house was used by the Germans to lock up people and to interrogate them in a not so friendly way. After the communists had taken over the power in Hungary from the Germans, they also took over this house and used it the same way as the Germans had used it.

In 2002 a museum was opened within this house. The terror executed during the German and communist occupation is shown within the museum, which was very impressing.

As it was very hot this day it was decided that after the visit of the museum everyone would be free to visit some places within the city. Some went to the Margit Island to enjoy the shade or the swimming pool. Others took the opportunity to visit various historic spots within the city.

Around 18:00 hour everybody was present at the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi Lánchíd) and together we walked across the bridge to the other side of the river. With the chain train we went up the hill to the castle hill, where we had a beautiful view over the Donau and the city. Especially the sunset was very beautiful to watch from this place.

After we walked down the hill again, we were collected by the bus and drove back to Székesfehérvár. During this ride we saw gigantic lightning in the distance, but fortunately it did not come too close to us.
